The Breaking Point Aiden Bates Books

The fact that there were so many ups and downs in this story as well as layers of personality in the characters just kept me hooked all the way through.

The Breaking Point Aiden Bates Books Reviews

I am a very big fan of Aiden Bates writing, and I read all of his books. His universe that he writes most of them in is a great one, and feels comfortable, like it’s ours, only twisted a little to the left. A slightly different alternate reality if you will. His books are m/m and have mpreg in most of them.

This book is not written in that universe as far as I can tell, and to be honest, I missed that. It also is a totally different writing style for him, and if it has been my first book by him, I would not have read any more. So, if this is your first Aiden Bates book, and you are not thrilled with it, please please please go check out his other books, they really are different. If you DO love this book, then, his other stuff is even better.
However, this is a review for this book, so let me get on to that. I warn you, I put spoilers in my reviews, so this is your warning…

The Breaking Point reminds me of an alternate universe style Brat Pack kind of feel. You have the sweet young boy who is great at comedy, and has the most upbeat attitude. Think Jerry Lewis style. And then you have the dark, focused slightly older gangster style man who takes the younger one for granted. It’s a basic story plot, and can work, if the characters pull you in. I really liked Lance, the younger guy, he cared for Vinny, and he had a great personality. He did not take himself too serious. Vinny on the other hand, was a jerk. He started off promising, but he moved into being a real piece of work too fast. I’m not sure there is a page in the book where he is not complaining or whining. I couldn’t tell why Lance stayed with him. Lance is the one who started them on the road to stardom, and he was the one who kept the relationship working. Vinny did seem to care about Lance, but it felt too much like a “hide your guy in the closet” love to me. He was Lance’s first and only lover, and he really did not seem to treasure what he had.

Vinny gets noticed, because of his looks and attitude, and makes a movie, and leaves Lance, who hasn’t been feeling well, off to deal with things on his own while Vinny goes and has a blast meeting all the “pretty people”. Vinny is an ass. I mean, why not take Lance along with him for filming? They find out Lance is pregnant, and Vinny leaves him with Lance’s parents to deal with the whole thing while he goes on to make a movie.
Why did Lance not leave Vinny? Vinny was very dog in the manger about Lance and this just felt very unbalanced to me. Vinny is the one with the roving eye, the one who drinks way too much, and the one who has to be constantly told he is good enough. Vinny is ten years older than lance, but Lance is the stable one.

Mainly, my main issue with this book is that it did not feel like a book, it felt like a diary or something. Just very free flow of these two guys lives, but nothing really major. There were major issues brought up, but they never had any depth. Everything just felt too little to me. Also, I never really felt there was a Breaking Point in the story. I wanted more, and so that's why I left a 3 star review.

The book blurb explains the story better than I can..

I like the subject matter of non shifter m/preg which is a different twist on the genre out there. We have Vinny and Lance each wanting to make it big. Vinnie as a singer and Lance, a comedian. They meet and it takes off from there. The story line seemed so interesting and i really wanted to like it but I did not. And the reason why? It was the way the book was written. I could not get past the way it was written.I disliked the short sentences and the fact it felt like I was being told what was happening rather than living and breathing their actions. I actually thought this was written by someone else. This had a promising start for me but it fell flat. Not one of the best books I have read by Aiden

I have some mixed feelings about this latest release of Aiden Bates. Of course I loved the topic but I had some issues with the characters and the way the story was told. Vinny, the alpha of the story, I could barely tolerate. He has this wonderful talent but he's a complete jerk, easily manipulated, has little to no common sense and not to mention fickle. He meets this great guy, Lance the omega, and immediately treats him like he's some clueless child but of some good use. In my opinion, Lance is the hero and should be the alpha of this story. He changes his way of life to make sure things are safe for his family. He swallows a ton of crap and he's set aside by the person who claims to love him. The chemistry between the two seemed forced and pretty much one-sided. Vinny showed more heat and passion when talking about other people.
Now for the plot, the history of Lance's family is more than a little vague so I was left with how and why after completing the story. This lack of information does not help make the story realistic or make much sense. Considering the Mpreg genre, a more solid history makes the story real. Considering the amount of Mpreg books written by Aiden, I hate to admit but I am a little disappointed with this one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Mr. Bates is one of my favorite authors and I truly enjoy his style and genre.
