The “History Mystery” Trilogy
A lost town, a misplaced historical artifact, a skeleton in the family tree, and runaway slaves hiding in the attic—all the “history mystery” you could want with a squeaky-clean romance for added spice.
Abby Thomas is spending her summer in a run-down old house with a bratty pre-teen named Merrideth she is supposed to tutor. It’s not Abby’s idea of a dream job, but it does come with perks.
There’s John Roberts, the devastatingly attractive neighbor who is almost too wonderful to be real.
And then there are the virtual trips to the past she gets to take via a strange and wonderful computer program called Beautiful Houses—also too amazing to be real. No one knows how it works, but with the software, Abby can rewind and fast-forward the lives of all the people who ever lived in a house for a God’s-Eye view of time.
In 1858, Merrideth’s house was a train stop on the Alton & Chicago Line, and a young woman named Charlotte lived there. She takes up the cause of abolition and turns the house into a station on the Underground Railroad after hearing Abraham Lincoln pour out his heart at the debate that will catapult him onto the national stage and lead to his presidency during the dark days of the Civil War.
In book two Abby’s reluctant student finally begins warming up to her. And her friendship with John Roberts is also heating up. He’s definitely marriage material. Except he thinks she’s crazy, because a computer program that allows you to rewind and fast-forward the lives of people from long ago is surely pure fantasy.
But then John sees for himself when together they use the program to help the “Old Dears” next door with their family tree. Rummaging around in their history, they discover that the 85-year-old twins have been keeping a secret from each other since 1941. And the ladies’ Buchanan ancestors have a few secrets of their own, too.
Reuben Buchanan is a blight on the Old Dears’ family name. But was he really guilty of arson? Abby and John must get inside the mind of a murderer to find out.
But there are also heroes in the ladies’ family tree. In 1803 Nathan Buchannan’s log cabin sat just outside Lewis and Clark’s camp where he and the other explorers spent the winter gathering supplies for their famous cross-continental expedition.
While Abby and John watch the cabin’s history unfold on their computer screen, they discover a 200-year-old treasure waiting to be reclaimed—and that God’s promise to bless a thousand generations really is true.
Since the Beautiful Houses software worked so well for the Old Dears’ family tree project, Abby’s friend Kate hopes it will help her find out more about her ancestor Ned Greenfield. Abby and John and Kate and her horrid fiancé Ryan take a trip to the tiny town of Equality, Illinois, where Ned Greenfield was born at a place called Hickory Hill. The townspeople of Equality refuse to help them, but eventually the two couples find Hickory Hill on their own.
Built in 1834, the mansion stands sentinel over Half Moon Salt Mine where the original owner John Granger accumulated his blood-tainted fortune with the use of slave labor in the free state of Illinois—the Land of Lincoln.
The shocking discovery on the third floor concerning Kate’s ancestor Ned Greenfield is almost too much to bear. But Abby and her friends are reminded that God is in the business of redemption—that one day he’ll make all things new.

This trilogy is amazing beyond description, but I will try. I was looking for a clean Christian romance when I stumbled upon "Time and Again." I was halfway through the book when I realized I would have loved it, romance or not. There is a continuing romance throughout the trilogy, but that's only a fraction of the storyline. I'm amazed at the talent of the author, who has created characters I really felt at home with, Biblical doctrine lived out in genuine Christian lives! The trilogy is a step way above cheesy Christian romances, because of the depth of its plot and intertwined characters. Please dont take my word for it, but read the books for yourself...the books are not lacking in any way. The author has true talent, unlike some others! This is by far the best series I have downloaded, and I've read a lot! Thank you, Deborah Heal!Product details

The Time and Again Trilogy Boxed Set books 13 edition by Deborah Heal Romance eBooks Reviews
Just read your time travel books for second time. I love the history in them. I live in northern ill. For 45 years, and from upstate n.y., have visited historical sites all over u.s. nice to get more info on state live in. Love it you give info on heroine's redoing her house, makes it more real to me. When I read have movie of story unfolding in my head. I love I can go to your books for good clean read and good story. Your the best kind of author.
From the very beginning of reading 'The Time and Again Trilogy' (books 1-3 ), I could hardly put the books down! Even, when the stories were taking a decidedly ugly turn; referring to the people in the attic, or it broke my heart to read something, or made me wonder at someone like Mr. Greenfield, who could find forgiveness, after the treatment that he and his family went through. I highly recommend these books to any who love history, and the idea of time travel, with valuable lessons to be learned along the way.
I just finished reading the trilogy and I loved it! I thought the premise was brilliant and the story line was fascinating all the way through. The characters, both historical and modern, were believable and lovable and I will miss them; all but Ryan! What I appreciated the most was the message of grace which permeated the pages. I hope to spend more time with Abby, John and Merri, "going virtual", in the future!
I received this collection free from one of the book sites. I do not remember which one! This is my honest review.
Deborah Heal is a wonderful author. I have enjoyed her Time and Again stories immensely. Historically accurate and good, clean Christian reading. Join Abby, Merri, John, and others as they learn more about the history of their towns and families than any history books could tell.
I'm recommending this set for young and older adults.
As a fan of time travel stories these were unique in that you don't go anywhere only through a computer program virtually seeing and hearing the thoughts of the person you are visiting. A very new concept. The Christian concepts included are refreshing to see. Thank you. I look forward for more time surfing.
To this author ,Deborah Heal. Usually when you read about the cruelty that slaves suffered at the hands of their white "Masters," the settings are usually in the South and mainly written by Northern authors. This triology tells it exactly like it was. Slave days were a cruel era here in the USA and other countries as well. They suffered a very harsh life. So I've read over the years and studied in history classes. The first slave ships, boats, etc. were owned by Northern mavericks, looking to make money and they did. Plantation owners North and South, bought the people to work their plantations and as in this book, the salt mines.Another form of slavery were the indentured servants brought here. Felons from other countries were sent to Austrailia to clear swamps and land for the large sugar plantations. It's well and good for the ones claiming their ancestors came here on the Mayflower. It sure was a huuugggeee ship to bring that many over here at one time .Have looked at the log registery of some of those ships and most of the passengers were male. ??
No,I'm not black,ranting
about slavery. Just an old white granny woman that likes to see the truth written, even in the fiction she reads.I have been reading for many, many years now and plan to read many ,many more.
This series was. so captivating that I could not stop reading it. I read the first book and had to buy the other two. I read them all in a few days. The characters are so real, and the forays into history are so skillful that present day characters not only discover history but also learn valuable lessons about God and life. Well written.
